Hydrochloric acid is a clear, colorless, aqueous solution. It is a corrosive strong mineral acid which is widely used in industry. Its main uses are steel industry, organic and inorganic compound production, pH control and neutralization, ion exchanger regeneration. It is used as a reagent in the chemical industry for the mass production of materials such as vinyl chloride (which is used to make PVC) and methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and toluene diisocyanate (TDI), the latter being the raw materials for the production of polyurethane. It also has a number of minor applications, including household detergent, limescale remover, but is also used in the manufacture of gelatin and other food additives, for descaling and for leather processing.

For on-site chlorine dioxide development, 7.5% hydrochloric acid solution is mixed with 25% sodium chlorite solution, both of which are available from stock at Vinyl.
